Meet R.E.D.

R. Enrique Diaz

Since the age of eleven, this man has been following the horse. Originally from Argentina, Enrique has traveled the world, learning, teaching and sharing his passion for polo and horses. He started from the ground up, using his eyes in the school he calls life. From England to Ireland, France, Spain, Italy, Scotland, Germany, and Barbados, Enrique has played all over the world. In the US he spent years playing in Florida, Washington, Arizona, and all over California. The last stop on his world tour took him to the islands of Hawai’i, where he fell in love, not only with the people and the lifestyle, but also the spirit of Aloha. After a decade of pouring his heart over mountains, beaches, and fields of polo and lava, Enrique found his way back home to Argentina where he settled his roots to cultivate his own Paradise Ranch.

Throughout his career, Enrique has been able to inspire many people of all ages with his passion for polo. His generosity and skills have been appreciated on the individual level as well as institutionally, and he is well known for making and training not only exceptionally great polo ponies, but all around amazing horses. He spent time teaching and coaching polo teams at Oxford and Stanford Universities, and he also created a polo program for UH Manoa, where he donated time, horses, and resources to his students. Enrique brought 55 horses to the islands of Hawai’i over the years that he lived there teaching and playing polo. It was in Hawai’i that the Red Polo 120 School was born, and it continues to this day on his private home field, that he made by hand, from scratch.

Life and success has not always come easy, but he has never been afraid of the hard work required, nor lacked the determination to make it happen. One of Enrique’s unique skills is his ability to see the potential of the land, and use his physical body with dedication to actually make it happen. His discipline and integrity are not often matched, and his fairness and munificence are something to talk about.

Enrique spends his days caring for his animals, as the sole caretaker of Red Polo Ranch, still playing and teaching polo, training young horses, and nothing gives him more joy than the time he spends with his son. His strength continues in the kitchen, or over an open fire, where he enjoys making nutritious ingredients come to life with his distinct taste that has been harvested from his travels around the globe. He looks forward to your visit to his spectacular sanctuary and sends a very special, warm Aloha.
